Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (OCFCU) is located within Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Region of Southern Ethiopia (part of the formerly named region of Sidamo/a). The co-op union was founded after a crisis in 1998 that left coffee farmers penniless from fraudulent transactions. OCFCU has since strengthened relationships with buyers through a transparent sales process and are Fair Trade certified. Fair Trade premiums received from coffee sales have been used to fund projects supporting clean water, education and improved infrastructure. OCFCU is the umbrella organization to multiple cooperatives including Layo Teraga Coffee Farmers Service Cooperative. Roughly 500 smallholder farmers belong to Layo Teraga Co-op, located in Uraga, Guji. We find this coffee to have lots of clean fruits including blueberry, strawberry and watermelon.
